Taher Jaoui’s work joins together painting and drawing, abstraction and representation. Jaoui’s compositions are built on an intuitive and unconscious process, unplanned but heavily inspired by cartoons, graffiti, Abstract Expressionism, and Primitivism. While incorporating semi-figurative elements and mathematical symbols, Jaoui’s work maintains a position of abstraction. Working primarily with oil, enamel, spray paint and charcoal on canvas, Jaoui builds up textural surfaces with layers of information.
Taher Jaoui was born in Tunis, Tunisia and currently lives and works in Madrid. His work has already been exhibited in various group and solo exhibitions across Europe, Africa and the USA
